Sam Mix #6

by

48 min listening time.

It’s been a while! Thought I’d add a bit more track commentary this time. It all gets a bit messy around 10 minutes from the end, so I’m apologising to your ears in advance!

1) “La ritournelle (Gilligan Moss Mix)” – Sébastien Tellier

3) “Drifting” – Deep Desire

Big fan of the laidback synth sound here to start with, but it builds up momentum over a few minutes before we get hit with some jumbled up vocals.

Single: “Drifting” (2019)
Label: Deep Desire

4) “Sex Magick” – KDA

Found this on TSHA’s great ‘All Night’ playlist on spotify a while back. Spooky synth lines and stomping beats.

6) “Ndebele” – WheelUP

I learned a lot looking this track up. I thought you would categorise it as some kind of breakbeat, but apparently it’s broken beat which is a completely different thing – west-London-originating nu-jazz.

Label: Tru Thoughts

7) “Sacrifice (Original Mix)” – Simian Mobile Disco, Bicep

A great single from 2013.

10) “TKOTN” – O’Flynn

Not directly related to this track, but we’ve seen some great remixes of O’Flynn’s first album come out over the past few months. This one from Dan Shake is an absolute stormer.
