A glimpse into what I like listening to whilst running.
1) “Recover” – Chvrches
I fell in love with Chvrches when I first saw them live at ‘T in the Park’ in 2013. An emotional synth-pop anthem, “Recover” is one of those songs I like to mouth the lyrics to whilst hurting at the end of a race.
Album: “The Bones Of What You Believe (Special Edition)” (2013)
2) “Blind” – Hurts
More dramatic synth-pop next from this duo from Manchester. Impassioned is how I would best describe this one.
Album: “Exile (Deluxe)” (2013)
Label: Major Label
3) “Dance in the Dark” – Lady Gaga
I can’t say I listen to her much anymore, but she was probably my favourite artist a decade ago, and I listened to ‘The Fame’ and ‘The Fame Monster’ nonstop when they came out. This is one of the lesser known songs from the album, but still my favourite.
Album: “The Fame Monster (Explicit Version)” (2009)
Label: UMG Recordings
I first heard this in the gym but kept on mishearing the lyrics so it took me weeks to identify it. I remember how happy I was when I finally did though! I don’t know anyone else who’s listened to this, and I’ve never heard it played anywhere else apart from the UCL gym, but I think it’s a banger!
Album: “A Town Called Paradise” (2014)
Label: Musical Freedom Label
5) “L’Amour Toujours” – Gigi D’Agostino
A classic of the Euro club scene in 2000, “L’amour Toujours” means “love always” in French. According to Wikipedia, this song was a regular feature of the Big Brother Finland house in season 4.
Compilation: “Top 100 Greatest Dance Hits” (2011)
Label: Cloud 9 Music
I’m a big fan of listening to progressive trance whilst running. I like how this song grows on you throughout the track, perfect for when you’re three hours into a run.
Compilation: “Best Of Female Vocal Trance 2016” (2016)
Label: Sir Adrian Music
7) “Runaway” – Allison Weiss
A little known electro-pop song which appeared on my Spotify radio last year. I’m never really too fussed by lyrics but I do always find myself singing along to this one.
Single: “Runaway” (2017)
Label: SideOneDummy Records
8) “Dressed in Black” – Sia
Sia really just is the best isn’t she. I feel like I’m transported to some other world whilst listening to this, which aptly concludes her album ‘1000 Forms of Fear’.
Album: “1000 Forms Of Fear” (2014)
Label: RCA Records
9) “Haunted” – Taylor Swift
Back from a time when Taylor Swift was still some sort of country bumpkin. This orchestral power-ballad may just be my favourite of hers.
Album: “Speak Now” (2010)
Label: Big Machine Records
10) “What Happens Next” – The Material
Sometimes you stumble upon a band which inexplicably no one has ever heard of. This is the case with the female fronted punk rock band The Material. This is the finale of their 2010 album ‘What We Are’, and a great way to finish this playlist.
Album: “What We Are” (2010)
Label: The Material
