I think I am becoming too critical and not letting enough music onto these lists…

1) “Now Awake” – Jelly Crystal

This passed me by. For two whole years I have missed this absolute stormer of a track. So far just a handful of singles and EPs from Stockholm based Filip Johnson, but hopefully a sleeper hit of an album is on its way.

Single: “Now Awake” (2018)
Label: West Coast Recordings

2) “Laugh Now Cry Later (feat. Lil Durk)” – Drake

The lead single from Drake’s forthcoming sixth album, “CERTIFIED LOVER BOY”. Drake and his autotune team are at it again. Perfectly catchy. Apparently the music video is horrific and just about Drake throwing his money around but I haven’t gone near it luckily.

Single: “Laugh Now Cry Later (feat. Lil Durk)” (2020)
Label: OVO, under exclusive license to Republic Records, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc.

3) “Somebody Else” – Pynch

Singer Spencer says about the song, “”Somebody Else” was written and recorded during lockdown after losing my job due to COVID-19. Lyrically, the song is a reflection on the conveyor belt of life, on figuring out your place in the world, and what you want out of life.” How about that? Those lyrics and storytelling are very impressive, perhaps the best COVID inspired tune so far? (Enter stage right Fleet Foxes…)

Single: “Somebody Else” (2020)
Label: Pynch

4) “Can I Believe You” – Fleet Foxes

Boy was I happy when Fleet Foxes released their album “Shore” to ring in Autumn last week, on just a single day’s notice! Everything you expect of a Fleet Foxes album: lovely and laidback, perfect to be played in the background. However, I need to revisit it a few more times to get its full worth.

Album: “Shore” (2020)
Label: Fleet Foxes, under exclusive license to Anti
