1) “Love Theme – From “Bladerunner”” – Vangelis

The music in Bladerunner is hypnotic, other worldly and seductive. Sci-fi has always allowed people to be transported to other worlds and this piece does it so smoothly.

Album: “Blade Runner (Music From The Original Soundtrack)” (1994)
Label: Warner Music

2) “Dirty Love” – Mt. Joy

I have tried and failed to play the ukulele for some time and this song for me justifies why it is an underrated instrument. But it’s the vocals that really drive this song forward.

Album: “Mt. Joy” (2018)
Label: Dualtone Music Group

3) “Paper Trails” – DARKSIDE

I found this song whilst finding music to test new headphones with. Boy does it have a mean bass.

Album: “Psychic” (2013)
Label: Matador / Other People

4) “Lose Your Love” – Joe Goddard

London can be a crazy place. Luckily, I’ve found people and places where it is the right sort of crazy. This song takes me back to those moments and reminds me to live a little.

Album: “Electric Lines (Bonus Edition)” (2017)
Label: Domino Recording

5) “The Lark Ascending” – Ralph Vaughan Williams

This blog has lacked some classical music. I showed this to my mum who plays the violin and she just nodded and said it was her favourite too. The bittersweet violin is almost like the vocals.

Album: “The Lark Ascending” (2013)
Label: Chandos

6) “Icarus” – Madeon

I distinctly remember listening to this when I was 14 and being impressed by the obvious craftsmanship in this song, despite it being completely digital. The drops are nice too.

Single: “Icarus” (2012)
Label: popcultur

7) “Pick up the Pieces” – Average White Band

A solid beat and some lovely brass. The song has me groovin’ and I’m not ashamed.

Album: “Average White Band” (1974)
Label: Demon Music Group

8) “Roads” – Westerman

“Staring up a road to nowhere”, simple lyrics but I do often find myself doing this.

Single: “Call and Response” (2017)
Label: Blue Flowers Music

9) “Poveglia” – Degs, De: Tune

I never really thought DnB was my sort of thing, but I was introduced to it by an old housemate (my DnB guru). This sprayout (I had no idea what this meant) is so good and you bet I sent this straight to my DnB guru giddy with excitement.

Single: “Poveglia” (2018)
Label: Hospital Records

10) “Typical” – Nightmares On Wax, Jordan Rakei

I discovered this song at the start of this year and have been in love with Jordan Rakei’s voice ever since. Such a jazzy tune.

Album: “Shape The Future” (2018)
Label: Warp Records

11) “The Isle of Arran” – Loyle Carner

Loyle Carner has been producing some honest and penetrating lyrics with his blend of alternative hip-hop. This song looks at his relationship with his father and the Father.

Album: “Yesterday’s Gone” (2017)
Label: AMF Records

12) “I Need – Wilkinson & Metrik Remix” – Wilkinson, Hayla

You want to run in the cold winter months at 6am? Listen to this song.

Single: “I Need (Wilkinson & Metrik Remix)” (2018)
Label: Ram Records

13) “Always” – Panama

There have been plenty of people in my life that I don’t think I will ever forget. Sometimes you can’t hold on to everyone. This song sums it up quite well and it sounds good too.

Album: “Always (Deluxe Edition)” (2013)
Label: Future Classic

14) “Reunion” – M83

M83 had an absolutely incredible album with “Hurry up, We’re Dreaming”. This song is particularly enchanting.

Album: “Hurry up, We’re Dreaming” (2011)
Label: M83 Recording

15) “Pequeña Gran Revolución” – IZAL

My Spanish girlfriend made me a playlist of some Spanish songs. Lo and behold her favourite was the one I picked out. Isn’t that sweet?

Album: “Copacabana” (2015)
Label: Hook Ediciones Musicales
